Akumal
Location: Akumal is 25 minutes south of Playa del Carmen and 25 minutes north of the archaeological site of Tulum. Located just an hour from the Cancun International Airport.
In the heart of the Riviera Maya just 37 Km. Playa del Carmen and an hour south of Cancun, Akumal is one of the best places to visit in the Mexican Caribbean for its great variety of beautiful beaches and tourist services.
Akumal in Mayan language means "Land of Turtles," this is still one of the favorite sites for these marine animals to spawn, however, which returns to Akumal a place of enchantment and fascination for tourists from around the world, is its spectacular Bay waters and the freshwater from the caves and underground rivers, called cenotes.
Akumal is one of the most tranquil places of the Mayan Riviera, a paradise of marine life ideal for nature and calm diving and snorkeling lovers, this is a spectacular and almost virgin place for snorkeling, there are all kinds of fish and of course you must carry your snorkel equipment to be able to enjoy its beauty.
Other activities that can be practiced in Akumal are sport fishing, windsurfing, kayaking, exploring cenotes, the bicycle rides and hiking through the jungle, or you can visit the Akumal Ecological Center which is located directly on the beach at Akumal. The information center displays various aspects of environmental education and is free to visitors.
Akumal faces one of the biggest reefs of the world and you will also find hundreds of caverns, caves and underground rivers to the delight of divers, who come from all over the world to enjoy their vast marine life.
You can also visit a few steps away from the inlet Yalku, known as the lagoon.
The beach has comfortable accommodation renovated villas, houses, condominiums and modern cozy Mexican-style inns and hotels, condominiums and luxury villas overlooking the Caribbean, restaurants and a small supermarket.
There are two dive shops certified by PADI, located in the area. Both teams offer snorkeling and diving in rent (per day or per week).
